The black tom prowled between the mountains of hay, paying no attention to anything but the plump mouse ahead. he made no noise as he stopped about two tail-lengths away and prepared to spring. just as he was about to pounce, his stomach growled loudly, alerting his prey to his position. the mouse looked up and scurried away. with a yowl, the tom jumped, but the mouse was too fast, darting through a crack in the wall nearby. the tom let out another yowl, scaring away all the other prey in the area. "I can fight off a group of cats, but one tiny mouse can evade me," growled Shadowpelt, "Maybe Flamewind is right. Maybe i can't improve my hunting skills, just like how he can't improve his fighting." with a sigh he shook the few stray pieces of hay from his pelt and headed toward a ladder that led up to a higher floor in the barn. the beams on the ladder were wide, so it was easy to climb. once at the top he looked around the make-shift den that the loners had created. he could smell fresh kill coming from each nest except his and his brothers. with an annoyed swish of his tail, he stalked over to his part of the dens and curled up, hoping that his brother had caught a enough for both of them...
