Forget what you thought you knew. Vampires exist. So do shapeshifters and the odd werewolf. Even demons sometimes come out to play - though they are a rarity. And in this world everything comes to life at night - or should I say unlife? With all these creatures running amok, you knew there had to be some people forged with the task of keeping them in control. That's where the Hunters come in. These trained killers hunt in the shadows - the very shadows their prey lurks in, hoping for a bite to eat. And they aren't aimless vigilantes, either, these Hunters. They're organized, professional. The leader of the whole operation is referred to only as the Dux Ducis - few know his or her name. And this leader has delegated power to hundreds of Electi all over the world. Their goal? To rid the earth of vampires - and anything else in their way.

It is with one of this chosen Electi that our story begins. Moira, Electus of the Blanding Hunter base, was known as the most skilled of her kind. She was intelligent, calculating, and, though no one hated her for it, cold. She was logical instead of emotional, calm in place of passionate. Every decision was made by her head, without the counsel of her heart. Most Hunters feared her somewhat - respected and admired, yes, but feared as well. And all of them counted on her to lead them indefinitely.

No one believes in Dracula. Well, no one believed in Dracula. Now they know without a shadow of a doubt that he is quite real. And in Blanding. Though he never attacked a single Hunter, they all knew he was plotting something. His schemes became rather clear on the night of a fierce battle. Instead of killing all who came in his path, he merely flung them out of his way, his eyes only on the Electus. They fought ferociously for what seemed like hours until fate intervened. The Electus was bitten and infected - she would become that which she Hunted in less than a week. Dracula, it seemed, had planned on letting her destroy her own Hunters. A poetic, yet crushing reality.

Now the Hunters are faced with a new challenge. With their Electus joining the undead, they not only have to find a new leader - and fast - they also have to figure out how to take down one of the best Hunters in the last century. And one of their greatest allies.
